IT support pricing
How much do managed IT services cost?
Fully managed IT for a small business usually costs $100 to $250 per user per month in the US. That covers help desk support, monitoring, updates, backups and security tools. Monitoring-only plans start lower, and hourly break-fix support typically runs $100 to $200 an hour. Most providers also charge a one-time onboarding fee.

Managed IT means a provider looks after your computers, accounts, network and security for a fixed monthly fee, instead of you calling someone when something breaks. Prices are usually quoted per user (each person who uses a computer) or per device.

Typical managed IT pricing
| Pricing model | Typical range | What you usually get |
|---|---|---|
| Fully managed, per user | $100–$250 / user / month | Help desk, monitoring, patching, backups, security tools, vendor management |
| Monitoring and patching only | $30–$100 / user / month | Updates and alerts; support billed separately |
| Per device | $50–$150 / device / month | Common when people share computers |
| Break-fix (hourly) | $100–$200 / hour | Pay only when something breaks; no prevention |
| Onboarding | One-time, often about one month's fee | Documenting your setup and fixing what's urgent |
Ranges are typical US market prices in 2026 for small and mid-sized businesses. They vary by provider, region and scope, and they are not CasperB2B's prices.
What changes your price
- Number of users and devices. The biggest factor. Ten people cost less than forty.
- Security requirements. Healthcare, legal, finance and government contractors need stricter controls, logging and documentation (HIPAA, for example), which adds cost.
- On-site visits. Fully remote support is cheaper than a plan with someone at your office.
- Response time. 24/7 coverage and one-hour response cost more than business-hours support.
- What's already in place. Old hardware, no backups or shared passwords mean more work up front.
Managed IT vs hiring an IT person
A full-time IT employee in the US typically costs $60,000–$90,000 a year before benefits, and one person can't cover every skill or every hour. For a 15-person business at $150 per user, managed IT is about $27,000 a year with a team behind it. Once you pass roughly 50–75 users, an internal hire plus a provider for security and after-hours cover often makes sense. Our guide do I need an IT person? walks through the decision.

Managed IT cost questions
Is per-user or per-device pricing better?
Per user is simpler when each person has a laptop and a phone; per device fits shared computers, like a front desk or shop floor. Ask the provider to show both for your setup.
What isn't included in a managed IT fee?
Usually new hardware, software licenses such as Microsoft 365, big projects like an office move or server migration, and sometimes on-site visits. Get the exclusions in writing.
Why is break-fix cheaper on paper?
You only pay when something breaks, but nothing is done to stop it breaking, and an outage costs far more than the support bill. Break-fix suits very small offices with simple needs.
Do I need a long contract?
Many providers ask for 12–36 months. A shorter term or a clear exit clause with handover of passwords and documentation protects you.
Does managed IT include cybersecurity?
Good plans include the basics: antivirus or endpoint protection, updates, email filtering, backups and multi-factor sign-in. Advanced monitoring and compliance work are often extra. See what cybersecurity costs.
How much does IT support cost for a 10-person business?
At typical fully managed rates, roughly $1,000 to $2,500 a month, depending on security needs and how much on-site help you want.
Is my business too small for managed IT?
Even a three-person office loses money when email, files or the card terminal go down. Small teams often start with monitoring, backups and security, then add help desk support.
