What a cloud migration covers

  • An inventory of your servers, shared drives, email, line-of-business apps, user accounts and devices, with notes on what moves, what gets replaced and what gets retired.
  • A migration plan with the order of moves, a cutover window outside your busy hours and a rollback step if something doesn't work.
  • Email and file moves into Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, with folder permissions rebuilt so people see only what they should.
  • Security settings: multi-factor authentication, admin account separation and sharing rules set before users log in.
  • Backups of cloud email and files, since the provider keeping your data online is not the same as you having a restorable copy.
  • User training on where files live now, how to share them and how to sign in on phones and laptops.

How the move works

  1. Discovery. We review what you run today and talk with the people who use it.
  2. Plan and scope. You get a written plan and a signed scope before any data moves.
  3. Prepare. We set up the cloud tenant, accounts, security and backups first.
  4. Pilot. A few users move first so we catch problems early.
  5. Cutover. The rest of the team moves in the planned window, and we check mail flow, file access and apps.
  6. Clean up. Old servers are decommissioned or kept as a temporary fallback, and you get documentation of the new setup.

What we need from you

Admin passwords handed over through a secure method we agree on, a list of the software your team uses each day, a contact who can approve the cutover date and any compliance needs that apply to your industry. Older apps that only run on a local server need special attention, so tell us about them early.

Who it fits, and when it doesn't

Cloud migration fits small offices running an aging server, teams that work from home or job sites, and businesses that want email and files backed up off-site. It may not fit if a key app has no cloud version and can't be hosted, or if your internet connection is too slow to work from the cloud; we will flag both during discovery. After the move, ongoing support comes through managed IT, protection through cybersecurity services, and restore planning through backup and recovery. Larger network and server work is covered under IT infrastructure. Not sure if you need outside help? Read do I need an IT person.

Frequently asked questions

What does cloud migration services for small business typically move?

Email, shared files, user accounts and business apps that have cloud versions. Each item is listed in the inventory with a plan to move, replace or retire it.

Is my data safe during a cloud migration?

Data is copied, checked and backed up before the old system is turned off, and security settings like multi-factor authentication are in place before users log in.

Do I still need backups if my files are in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?

Yes. The provider keeps the service running, but deleted or encrypted files may not be recoverable without a separate backup, so we set one up as part of the move.
